What to see and do in Albufeira
What to see and do in Albufeira isn’t an easy question to answer thanks to the many and varied offer existing in this former fishing village
What to see and do in Albufeira isn’t an easy question to answer. The offer is immense. Albufeira is one of the most popular beach destinations of the Algarve. It ranks 6th on Trip Advisers Top 10 Beach Destinations in Europe. And this award wasn’t won by chance. In fact, Albufeira has all the needed ingredients for the perfect vacations.
What to see and do in Albufeira
Albufeira area offers some of the most magnificent beaches in the Algarve. Nestled between magnificent cliffs, their beauty is breath-taking.
Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen Beach) owes its charm to the fishing boats. They lend the sand a special colorful distinctive trace.
Praia da Coelha, attended by our President Cavaco Silva, Galé or Olhos de Água are some of my favorite beaches in the Albufeira area.
Yet I have to enhance the beauty of the Salgados beach and the Salgados Lagoon. They are unique thanks to its unusual dune formation and characteristic vegetation. The area is the habitat of an exotic bird life.

A day at the beach is always a good choice if you are wondering what to see and do in Albufeira.
If you are traveling with children Zoomarine is a commendatory stop. No child – or adult for that matters – resists the dauphins, birds of prey, sea lions and all other animals that live in this park. Zoomarine is the place to discover the mysteries of the oceans.
The park has a swimming pool and rafting channels to ease the high temperatures that characterize summer in the Algarve along many other attractions.
At Zoomarine you have the chance to swim with the dauphins. This is an unforgettable experience you must book in advance.
For a great day with your family I advise Parque Aventura. Here you all may climb, jump and slide as much as you want! The park is situated in Santa Eulália. It offers several courses in the trees and a paintball area with natural obstacles.
The amusement routes were though for everybody. They don’t require physical training and are accessible from 4 years old.
Albufeira’s Old Town has charming typical white houses. Here you may experience the ambience of the old fishing village. A stroll along its narrow streets is a good answer to the question what to see and do in Albufeira. This atmosphere was destroyed in many other parts of the Algarve due to the crazy construction that deprived it from its characteristics.
Sea Caves boat tour
Don’t miss a boat tour along the sea caves of the Albufeira area. The most famed is Xorino Cave. According to the legend this cave served as a refuge place for the Moors expelled from Albufeira when the Portuguese conquered this town. There are organized tours sailing from the marina.
Albufeira is known for its many restaurants, bars and discos. Its movida is famed all over the world. If you are travelling with children there are street performances held mainly in Albufeira’s central square.
