The Azores is on Fodor’s 2013 Go List along with 24 other world destinations. The beauty and the uniqueness of each island are some reasons for this choice.

The Azores is on Fodor’s 2013 Go List along with 24 other destinations all over the world, from ‘the fairytale castles of Slovenia to the golden temples of Myanmar’. Fodor’s, world’s biggest tourist guides publisher, issues each year its own top of 25 not to miss destinations. The list ‘encompasses great values, newly accessible destinations, buzzy hotspots, and travel-worthy events around the globe’.

The reasons why The Azores is on Fodor’s 2013 Go List

Fodor’s considers the Azores ‘A lush island paradise in Portugal just waiting to be discovered’. The sentence may summarize the reasons for the election, however Fodor’s goes on with the compliments.

Margaret Kelly, Fodor’s journalist signing the article, describes the Azores as a ‘lush, volcanic archipelago’ famed for ‘world-class whale watching, hot mineral springs, and quaint seaside towns’. For her ‘each of the nine islands that make up the Azores Islands has its own fascinating identity’.

The Azores is on Fodor’s 2013 Go List also due to economic reasons. After all, ‘it’s almost impossible find an expensive restaurant on any of the islands.’ After considering the lodging options ‘cozy’, Margaret Kelly surrenders to the Azorean gastronomy, stating without a doubt that ‘seafood is outstanding’.

The journalist considers the Azores location ‘in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about mid-way between the New York and Lisbon’ as ‘slightly inconvenient’. However is ‘thanks to the Portuguese territory’s off-the-beaten-path locale, prices are well within budget.”
When it comes to lodging options, Fodor’s mentions Furnas Lake Villas in São Miguel and Adegas do Pico. Yet, there are other great hotels both in São Miguel as in Pico island.

Although the Azorean beaches aren’t the archipelago’s main highlight, Margaret Kelly advises readers that they should go for a swim because ‘the Gulf Stream keeps the water a temperate 70 degrees—perfect for a dip’.

The other destinations on the list

As said, the Azores is on Fodor’s 2013 Go List along with 24 other travel destinations.
