The strawberries with Port wine recipe joins the unique taste of one of my favorite fruits, the strawberries, with the elegance of the Port wine, one of the Portuguese symbols.
- 1 (750-ml) bottle of Port wine
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 to 3 lb whole medium strawberries
- Boil the Port wine with the sugar in a heavy saucepan over moderate heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved; then boil, uncovered, for about 20 minutes, until slightly syrupy and reduced to 1 to 1¼ cups.
- Let the syrup cool to room temperature for about 30 minutes, letting it thicken while it cools. Transfer to a small bowl and dip in it the strawberries, stems left intact and berries rinsed and patted dry. This strawberries with Port wine recipe is a wonderful dessert.
