Located 3,5 km (about 2 miles) away from Ericeira,Portugal, Ribeira d’Ilhas beach is famed all over the world for the perfect surf conditions it offers. In fact, the very long waves and highly accessible despite the long paddle out attract surfers from many different countries. Thus, while standing on the beach sometimes we ear so many languages that it looks like we are visiting the Tower of Babel!
Anyway, let me go back to the surf conditions, as I must also refer that the waves are consistent almost all year round, offering a small swell. Besides, surfers will also find two peaks north at “Pedra Preta” and a right point break with a narrow peak at “Pontinha”. The bottom is mostly characterized by flt rocks.
Thanks to these conditions, Ribeira d’Ilhas hosts an event of the world championship tour and is considered by many as the best surf beach in Europe. It is also one of the favourite beaches of bodyboarders.
