Portugal ranks 1st on Globe Spots top 10 countries for 2013 due to various reasons. Its relaxed and familiar ambience and amazing heritage are some of them.

Portugal ranks 1st on Globe Spots top 10 countries for 2013 was the first news I read today. The international travel site and travelers community elected its 15th top 10 countries to travel to.
Globe Spots was founded by Bo Løvschall , a Danish traveler, who at the age of 39 has already visited more than one hundred countries.

The reasons why Portugal ranks 1st on Globe Spots top 10 countries for 2013

Portugal ranks 1st on Globe Spots top 10 countries for 2013 for many reasons. One of them is the ‘old European charm’ of the country resulting from ‘the medieval towns and historical quarters full of squares, churches and monasteries’.

The familiar ambience long gone in most of the other developed countries and that still exists in Portugal also contributes for the Portuguese position on the list. Even in the largest cities there is a sense of coziness due to the ‘Narrow lanes are flanked by old skew houses with crooked balconies draped in drying laundry’ according to Globe Spots.

In Portugal neighbours know each other and they ‘still share the latest gossip or discuss politics from their windows.’

The tranquility and relaxed way of living of the Portuguese were also enhanced. Portugal ranks 1st on Globe Spots top 10 countries for 2013 also because ‘The pace is soothingly slow and any day seems to be a good day for a drink.’ Of course, visitors are likely to be caught in this slow rhythm of enjoying the best things live has to offer. For Globe Spots there is no doubt ‘…that after a few days in Portugal, you’ll find yourself sitting in a small square with a glass of tawny port in your hand, no matter whether you previously liked the stuff or not. It’s just one of those things Portugal does to you.’
