Ilha do Lombo, a hidden paradise
The unique beauty and tranquility of Ilha do Lombo, a small island set in the middle of the Castelo de Bode Reservoire, will conquer you.
Ilha do Lombo (Lombo island) is a charming small island set just in the middle of the Castelo de Bode lake, on the Zêzere River, a tributary of the Tagus River, near the beautiful city of Tomar, central Portugal.
This is one of the places I return to whenever I have the chance for it is a perfect retreat, either for romance, for being with friends or for enjoying with the children.
Due to its geographical situation it can only be reached by boat, therefore it is not accessible to everyone. However, even if you won’t be able to set feet on Ilha do Lombo, the river banks opposite to the island justify the visit.
The tranquility of the Zêzere River is a blessing when it comes to fled away the crazy rhythm of today’s life, when time is a luxury and sometimes the most important things are neglected. Here you will forget that there is a world out there.
The landscape surrounding the island is absolutely amazing, inviting you to relaxation and making you feel like you are in communion with nature. However, if you are more of the sporty type this is also the right place for you: Windsurf, canoeing, paddle boating, fishing or swimming at the crystal waters of the Zêzere River are some of the available options you can choose from.
Another fantastic option is to explore the river shores, walking without destination, just enjoying the fresh air, perfumed with the pine trees aroma, as well as the breathtaking landscape that surrounds you.
Estalagem Ilha do Lombo
On Ilha do Lombo there is a pleasant Inn, the Estalagem Ilha do Lombo, that is being presently renewed. I am looking forward to the end of the renovation works so that I can return once more to this hidden paradise. Meanwhile, if you don’t want to wait for the Inn reopening, there are another accommodation options highly recommendable in the Tomar area that will ensure you a pleasant stay, either hotels or rural tourism facilities.
