Family holidays in Portugal is a synonym of great weather wonderful beaches, culture, history, a famed movida, fantastic food and lots of fun. So what are you waiting for?

When planning your next family holidays how about considering Portugal as your destination? Wonderful climate, with hot summers and mild winters, amazing beaches with golden sand and warm waters, perfect resorts and hotels, welcoming people and a divine gastronomy aren’t arguments enough to convince you? That’s alright because Portugal is indeed all this and much more.

In fact, from north to south there are plenty of reasons that will turn your family holidays in Portugal into a memorable time spent with your love ones. Starting from the top, there is to say, from the most northern regions, you will have dazzling landscapes of green, like the Geres Park with its trekking tracks that will take you to amazing waterfalls where you can go for a refreshing swim, centenary cities, which historic centers resemble open-air museums, with a lively present like Guimarães, 2012 European Capital of Culture, or Braga, 2012 European Youth Capital.

Then you have Oporto, the iconic city that determined Portugal´s name and the export door for Port wine, produced in the nearby outstanding Douro Valley. Not far there is also the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, where you may witness an outstanding testimony of the early days of mankind through one the most impressive treasures of expressive art in the world.

Center Portugal offers you charming historical villages like Sortelha an impressive architectural Heritage, being the Convent of Christ, the Batalha Monastery and the Alcobaça Monastery its outmost examples.

There is also of course Lisbon with its unique light illuminating its seven hills and traditional quarters such Alfama, Mouraria or Bairro Alto. Your kids – and you – will love the Lisbon Oceanario! Of course Belem district should be on top of your priorities has it offers some of the most imposing monuments in Lisbon.

If you are looking for quietude and hypnotic landscapes of golden plains with no end in sight, then Alentejo is your destiny. Believe when I say that a few days on a boathouse at the Alqueva are an unforgettable experience!

The Algarve is world-famed for its unrivaled beaches: take a look at our selection of Algarve beaches. Yet, if you are going there, take a day to visit Zoomarine for a fun day among amazing sea creatures.

The Madeira archipelago is another must go Portuguese region. While Madeira Island offers you a multitude of landscapes and a lively capital – Funchal –, Porto Santo, the other inhabited island of the archipelago, has a 9 km sand beach waiting for you.

Last but not least, let me introduce you to the Azores, a paradise almost untouched by men, perfect for those who like trekking.
