Even though the one of the best ways to enjoy Serra da Estrela cheese is to put it on a slice of bread with a spoon, let me share with you one of my favorite recipes where this cheese combines perfectly with another top Portuguese product, the honey. Serra da Estrela and honey pastries will make you lick your fingers.

  • Puff pastry
  • Serra da Estrela cheese
  • Egg yolk
  • Honey
  1. Stretch the puff pastry and with the help of a glass cut it into several round discs.
  2. Display a spoon full of cheese on one of the discs and cover with another disc. Join the two discs and repeat the operation until you have no more puff pastry.
  3. Place the pastries on a backing tray lined with bakery paper, keeping a small distance between them, and brush them with egg yolk, previously beaten with a fork.
  4. Take them into the oven and let them cook until they have a golden color. As soon as you take them from the oven, place the pastries on a serving plate and pour some honey, at your taste, on them. Serve while they are still warm.
