Comporta beach, the Portuguese Riviera
Comporta is the refugee of many famous personalities, atracted by the natural beauty and luxurious services of this beach of the Alentejo.
The beach’s astonishing beauty, with its golden sand and crystal blue and green waters, as well as its tranquility, have conquered many famed visitors, including royalty members, movie stars and international musicians. Princess Caroline of Monaco and his children are some of the habitués of the area and it is said that the former French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni, have recently bought a house here.
These worldwide renowned personalities are attracted not only for the magnificent landscape but also for the exclusive ambience and the quietness of the place, resulting from the fact that since 1980 Comporta integrates the boundaries of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, which means that it is subject to strict development rules that allow the preservation of its natural beauty, control both pollution and the impact of human presence.
Comporta beach is getting more and more a stylish holiday destination, offering luxurious accommodation options and a high quality gastronomy that is internationally renowned for the quality and freshness of the fish and shellfish.
However, there is always the reverse side of the medal. Such glamour goes hand-in-hand with high prices, at least according to the Portuguese middle class standards. A sunshade at the beach may cost 60€ a day, a dinner at one of the fancy restaurants of the area goes above 50€ per person and a one night stay for two at Troia Design Hotel in August costs more than 200€. Well, on second thought considering the top quality offered and the fact that you may have, for instance, Queen Rania of Jordan, as your towel neighbor at the beach, the prices are not so high after all. In fact it is much cheaper than the French Riviera and much more exclusive.
